Hi, It has been a long while since I responded to a letter on SchizKidzBuddies. I saw your letter and thought that I would send along my regards, and hopefully words of wisdom.
I was born with "cerebral palsy" (Notice the quotation marks). I was sick a lot when I was growing up, but was in regular school getting along.
I was a late starter developmentally (e.g.. walking) I always have had partial paralysis on left side of my body.
I started having seizures when I was 12. (I Think)
When I was 28, I got a bachelors degree in Human Services, and went for brain surgery in 1994. During surgery evaluation, I was told by my neurologist that I had schizencephaly. Anyway, I am now seizure-free and am the process of getting a masters degree in counseling with emphasis on Vocational Rehabilitation.
I also work at Goodwill where I help individuals with disabilities develop positive job skills and learn job-seeking skills.
Look for your child to make their "leaps and bounds". I hope this does not sound too simplistic. Good luck and God bless you all.
